QuickTime movies must be "flattened"
or "self-contained" with "no" resource fork.

Microsoft Windows
You need Apple's
QuickTime Player for Windows
to see QuickTime .moovs on a PC.
Speed
Apparently, QuickTime has faster playback than MPEG.
Sparkle2.0 has the capability to convert QuickTime to MPEG.
You may want Apple's Thread Manager to speed up the process.
Samples
Robert Lentz
has a sample movie available at
http://www.astro.nwu.edu/lentz/test.html
"This is an 80K QuickTime movie of a strange attractor (I believe that is
what the Readme said). It came pre-flattened, so the MPEG conversion was
from a flattened movie (not that this should make a difference). It is
notable that in this case the MPEG wound up being almost twice as large as
the QT (156K for the MPEG) and of seriously lesser quality (with the default
conversion settings)."
